Kinugawa Onsen — River Gorge Hot Springs

**Top ryokan for day-use onsen:** Kinugawa Grand Hotel (¥1,200 day-use, large outdoor bath with river view). Asaya Hotel (¥1,500, historic property with impressive Edo-period architecture and rooftop rotenburo). Both accept walk-ins 12:00–15:00 (avoid weekends/holidays when they may be fully booked). **River activities:** Kinugawa Line Kudari (boat descent) — a 40-minute traditional wooden boat ride through the gorge, piloted by boatmen using bamboo poles (¥3,000, April–November). The gorge walls rise 30–40 meters, autumn foliage is spectacular. Book at the pier near Kinugawa Park. **Tobu World Square (10-min walk from station):** A theme park displaying 1:25-scale replicas of world landmarks — Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal, Great Wall of China, etc. It sounds kitschy but the craftsmanship is remarkable. Expect multi-course dinner (8–10 dishes), tatami room, yukata robe, and unlimited onsen access. **Combine with:** Nikko is 30 min away by train — stay in Kinugawa Onsen, day-trip to Toshogu Shrine and Lake Chuzenji, then return for evening onsen. Or visit Edo Wonderland (ninja theme park, 5-min drive) for historical reenactment fun.
