The statues' surface is smooth concrete — touching is actively encouraged, unlike most heritage sites. **Combine with Udo Jingu:** These two sites are 10 minutes apart on the same coastal road. Ideal half-day: Udo Jingu (30 min) → Sun Messe (45 min) → continue north along Nichinan coast (scenic drive). The coastal drive from Udo Jingu to Miyazaki City via Route 220 takes 60 minutes and offers continuous ocean views.
