Imazu Bay Flamingo Sunset Café Row

Along the Imazu Bay coastline of Itoshima, a loose collection of surf cafés, beach bars, and open-air restaurants has emerged over the past decade facing directly west across the Genkai Sea. The establishments — most in repurposed beach shacks or shipping containers — open from midday and stay until the last sunset light fades. The sea-facing orientation is deliberate: Itoshima's sunsets, unobstructed by anything between the coast and the Korean coast 200 km away, are among the most dramatic in Kyushu.

Insider Guide

Premium
**Top cafés:** SAVA! (best food — smoked fish tacos and local craft beer), Kiitos (best sunset position), and Waves (best coffee). All operate from 11:00; Kiitos stays open until 20:30 in summer. SAVA! has standing reservations policy — show up 30 minutes before sunset. **Solstice evenings:** June 20–22, the sun sets almost perfectly between two offshore islands, creating a natural frame effect that draws photographers from across Kyushu. The beach directly in front of SAVA! fills by 18:00 — arrive at 17:00.
