A visit to Inabe Plum Grove is easy to underplan — bring more time, and less certainty about what you'll find, than you'd expect.

Inabe sits under the Suzuka range in the north of Mie and its agricultural park holds around four thousand plum trees of about a hundred varieties across a 38-hectare site — the largest plum planting in the Tokai region. It is split between a working orchard of fruiting varieties and a garden section of ornamental ones, and the two flower at slightly different times, which stretches the season.

The reason to go is the viewing platform. From it the whole planting reads as bands of white through every shade of pink, with the Suzuka mountains behind still carrying snow in February. It opens only for the blossom, roughly late February to late March, from nine to four, ¥500 for adults and free for children, with parking for three and a half thousand cars.

Fujiwara-cho Kanae 717, Inabe. Car recommended; from Yokkaichi IC or Kuwana IC. Open only during the plum festival, in 2026 from 21 February to 20 March, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Admission ¥500 for adults, free for elementary school age and under, with a group rate of ¥400 for 20 or more adults. Parking for about 3,500 vehicles. The site covers 38 hectares with around 4,000 trees of about 100 varieties, split between a fruiting orchard and an ornamental garden section, with a viewing platform above. Phone.

Local knowledge

**It opens for about a month a year.** Late February to late March. Outside the festival period the gate is shut. **Go up to the viewing platform.** The whole 38 hectares reads as bands of colour from there with the Suzuka range behind. At ground level it is trees. **Two sections flower at different times.** Fruiting varieties and ornamental ones, which spreads the season and means early and late visits see different things. **Free for elementary school age and under.** ¥500 for adults, which for the largest plum planting in the region is reasonable. **Three and a half thousand parking spaces.** Which tells you what the weekends are like. A weekday morning is a different place.
