Hikone Castle (彦根城) is one of Japan's 12 original castles (surviving since Edo period), built 1603–1622. The castle preserves authentic wooden architecture, steep defensive stairs, and original structures without modern reconstruction. The three-story main keep demonstrates practical military design while maintaining aesthetic elegance.

The castle grounds include Genkyu-en Garden (玄宮園), a traditional daimyo strolling garden with pond, tea houses, and castle views. The combination of original castle architecture and refined garden creates complete feudal-era experience.
