Akashi Castle Ruins & Sakura Park — Cherry Blossom Viewpoint
Akashi Castle (明石城) is a partially-preserved castle built in 1619, with two original three-story turrets (巽櫓 and 坤櫓) remaining atop stone walls. The castle never had a main keep (天守閣), making it less architecturally impressive than Himeji, but the surrounding Akashi Park (明石公園) is famous for cherry blossoms — 1,400 sakura trees bloom in early April, creating one of Hyogo's top hanami spots.
The park's moats reflect cherry blossoms, and the stone walls provide backdrop for photos. The turrets are National Important Cultural Properties, viewable from exterior (interior rarely open). The park is more 'pleasant urban green space' than 'must-see castle,' but the sakura season transforms it into temporary spectacle worthy of detour if timing aligns.
