**Photography timing:** The dunes are most photogenic early morning (6:00–8:00) when side-lighting from sunrise creates dramatic shadows emphasizing ripple patterns. The sand's surface is smoothest after overnight winds before foot traffic disrupts patterns. Sunset (17:00–18:30 summer, 16:00–17:00 winter) offers warm light but western sky lacks ocean horizon (ocean is east). Midday harsh light flattens the dunes' contours — avoid 11:00–15:00. Winter provides clearest skies and most dramatic wind patterns but cold ocean wind requires warm clothing. **Sea turtle nesting season:** Loggerhead turtles nest May–August, with peak activity June–July. Female turtles come ashore at night (22:00–4:00) to dig nests and lay 100+ eggs. Hatchlings emerge 50–60 days later and instinctively rush to ocean. Conservation volunteers monitor nests and protect them from predators.
