**Bloom timing precision:** Hydrangea peak bloom is highly weather-dependent — rainy June accelerates blooming, dry June delays it. Peak typically lasts 7–10 days; before/after peak the color is noticeably faded. **Photography strategy:** The stairway faces northeast; morning light (7:00–9:00) illuminates the flowers from the side, creating depth and shadow. Midday light is harsh and flattens the colors. Overcast days provide soft, even lighting ideal for flower photography. Weekdays see 1/5 the visitors of weekends. **Alternative route:** Most visitors climb the stairway and descend the same way. A secondary trail descends the back side of the hill through forest (15 min) and loops back to the parking lot — quieter and offers different hydrangea varieties planted in the forest understory.
