Fushimi (伏見) is one of Japan's three premier sake-brewing regions, blessed with underground springs of exceptionally soft water (軟水, nansui) that creates smooth, refined sake. Over 40 breweries operate in Fushimi, many offering tastings and brewery tours. The district's historic breweries — white-walled kura (storehouses) reflected in willow-lined canals — create a preserved Edo-period townscape.

Gekkeikan Okura Sake Museum (月桂冠大倉記念館) is the most accessible brewery museum, occupying a 1909 kura with exhibits on sake production, fermentation science, and tasting room offering 5–6 seasonal sake varieties.
