Fukuoka Beer Scene — Craft Brewing in Hakata

Fukuoka's craft beer scene has grown from two brewpubs in 2015 to over 20 operations in 2024, concentrated in the Nakasu/Daimyo and Yakuin/Kego districts. The impetus was partly the Kirin Brewery legacy (established in Hakata 1888) and partly the influx of international population through the tech sector. The Fukuoka Beer Scene is now considered by Japanese craft beer writers as the most sophisticated outside Tokyo, with a particular strength in lagers and Belgian-influenced ales.

The 'Hakata Beer Map' available at the tourist information center marks all 20+ locations. **Yatai + craft beer combo:** The most Fukuoka thing possible: start at a craft taproom at 17:30 for two beers, then walk to Nakasu yatai at 19:00 for ramen and shochu.
